Bank of America (BAC) announced today the opening of the first of three “outreach” centers in Nevada to help distressed and underwater homeowners modify their mortgages. The bank already has similar centers in Brea, California (Los Angeles) and Phoenix, Arizona. Additional, a source also confirms that BofA currently has teams on the ground in various distressed homeowner hotspots around Florida, as the bank plans to open outreach centers in each of the sand states — those particularly hard hit in the current recession. The first Nevada center is in Henderson, with plans to expand into Reno and Las Vegas by the end of this month. “Bank of America has been very active in working on financial solutions for our mortgage customers in Nevada, including a dedicated mobile team that has been in the state since January and frequent participation in homeowner outreach events,” said Rebecca Mairone, national servicing executive for Bank of America Home Loans. “We recognize that homeowners in Nevada have been faced with some of the most extreme economic conditions that require further special efforts on our part.” BofA existing homeownership retention efforts that have already resulted in completed mortgage modifications for more than 15,000 Nevada homeowners since January 2008. Another 7,500 are currently in active trial modifications through the federal government’s Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). Tomorrow morning Jack Schakett, credit loss mitigation strategies executive for Bank of America Home Loans, will give an update on the implementation phase of their enhanced National Homeownership Retention Program (NHRP). It is widely expected that he will discuss efforts to implement the earned principal forgiveness reduction program about to be aggressively deployed by BofA. Write to Jacob Gaffney.
