Foreclosure Filings Exceed 100,000 for Fifth Straight Month, Up 35 Percent From Dec 2005 

A new report released today said that 109,652 properties entered some stage of foreclosure during December 2006, a decrease of 9 percent from the previous month, but an increase of 35 percent from levels reported during December 2005. Foreclosures typically decline in December relative to previous months, due primarily to lender-imposed holiday moratoriums. RealtyTrac’s U.S. Foreclosure Market Report found that Colorado reclaimed the nation’s top foreclosure rate, while Texas documented the nation’s most new foreclosure filings during the month.
