Most of America’s largest mortgage lenders have instituted at least one round of layoffs this year. A rapid rise in mortgage rates and a big drop in origination volume has led to thousands of industry job losses in 2022 and 2023.

Sep 06, 2007The Wall Street Journal reports that Countrywide Financial has let go of 900 additional employees: Yesterday, Countrywide said the 900 layoffs were mainly in its mortgage-production divisions. The company statement didn’t provide details. “Any further changes to the Countrywide organization will reflect our ongoing strategy to align our business to the marketplace,” the company said.
