MBA’s Marcia Davies on creating more space for women
Today’s HousingWire Daily interview features a crossover episode from HousingWire’s Girlfunds podcast. In this episode, Marcia Davies, the chief operating officer for the Mortgage Bankers Association and a winner of the HousingWire Woman of Influence award, continues the conversation on leadership and what women can do to better support other women.
During the episode, Davies shares her own journey in dealing with “imposter syndrome,” as well as actionable tips for women just starting their career on negotiating salary and compensation.
Here’s a snippet from the Girlfunds article on overcoming “imposter syndrome”:
For some background on Davies, she previously worked at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as senior advisor to the assistant secretary for housing and federal housing commissioner, and before joining HUD, she spent 21 years at Freddie Mac. She is also the founder of mPower – MBA Promoting Opportunities for Women to Extend their Reach – MBA’s networking platform for women in the real estate finance industry.
Here’s one Girlfunds takeaway tip from Marcia Davies:
The best advice I can give is, do not be afraid to take some risks. And I’m not saying you have to take big risks. But start getting comfortable with putting yourself out there and taking risks and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.
