Coldwell Banker COO on female leadership in real estate
The latest episode of Girlfunds features Liz Gehringer, Coldwell Banker Real Estate chief operating officer, who talks about how she created the Women in Leadership platform at Coldwell Banker and how the program champions Coldwell’s next generation of women leaders.
Gehringer also touches on some of the challenges that women face when it comes to growing their careers and how they can start dreaming bigger in their career goals.
Gehringer is a 2019 HousingWire Women of Influence and her colleagues credit her for guiding affiliates through a major rebrand and fostering inclusion through the creation of the Women in Leadership platform. Through this program, Gehringer gives credence to female voices within the network, supporting and encouraging female broker-owners.
Here’s one Girlfunds takeaway tip from Liz Gehringer:
When I got into the chief operating officer role, I was amazed at how many people said to me, “Oh, my gosh, you’re a woman, like this is such an amazing accomplishment.” And things like, “Wow, what’s it like to be a woman in leadership?”
It was just really interesting because it hadn’t come to me that way. I hadn’t thought about it that way. And it was a real mind shift for me to understand and embrace that. It was clear to me just by the women themselves, and the way they approached me about it, that it was really important. So, it took me a minute to adjust, right, because I thought I had worked hard, and this felt like an achievement for me on a business level on what the position was going to be. But, I hadn’t really thought about how it would be meaningful to other people, and that was going to give me extra responsibility. But it turned out to be an extra joy.
