Zillow has added a new messaging feature to its app — allowing homebuyers to chat with “co-shoppers” and share listings.

Leaders say the new feature aims to reduce confusion and missed messages by consolidating talk about listings into a single channel.

“This new messaging product brings the collaboration that already happens across text messages directly into Zillow,” said David Beitel, chief technology officer at Zillow. “It’s another step toward making the home journey simpler and more connected. We’re continuing to bring more of the experience onto Zillow so buyers can move from browsing to closing with less friction and more confidence.”

Zillow reports that more than 60% of buyers shop with at least one other person. The new chat feature allows users to invite a partner, roommate or friend to their in-app inbox to coordinate their search together.

Several other updated have been introduced as part of Zillow’s fall product launch, including;

  • Virtual staging: An artificial intelligence (AI)-powered feature available on Zillow Showcase listings that lets users visualize empty rooms in various styles, such as modern or Scandinavian.
  • Zillow Home Loans verified pre-approval: A digital process that helps buyers verify information and get mortgage-ready faster.
  • Closing dashboard: Developed with Spruce, this feature helps buyers track title and escrow tasks in one secure location.
  • Rentals AI assist: Powered by EliseAI, it provides renters with 24/7 automated responses about property details, tours and availability.

Messaging — along with the rentals AI assist, virtual staging, verified pre-approval and closing dashboard — is available now through the Zillow app.
