SunTrust Mortgage, Inc. announced today that Denis McLaughlin has been named senior vice president and chief credit officer. McLaughlin will oversee all areas of SunTrust Mortgage’s credit risk function including credit policy and exception approval administration, forecasting and decision modeling, analytics and reporting, quality control, fraud mitigation, and third-party risk management. “Denis’s extensive background in the credit risk area combined with his excellent management skills make him a valuable addition to our management team,” said Sterling Edmunds, President and CEO, SunTrust Mortgage, Inc. McLaughlin has more than 22 years of experience in the credit risk and default management areas. He comes to SunTrust Mortgage from Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in Des Moines where he held the position of senior vice president in their credit risk division. Prior to that, he worked for J.P. Morgan Chase where as a vice president in Chase Home Finance’s credit risk division he handled portfolio forecasting, reporting and analytics, and database management for their first mortgage, home equity and manufactured housing portfolios. He has also worked for Chase Financial, a former Chase subsidiary, as vice president in charge of portfolio analytics for their home equity, manufactured housing, RV and marine loans. McLaughlin has also held positions at Chase Financial in both consumer operations and default management. Mr. McLaughlin began his financial career in default management and credit analysis with United Consumer Financial Services in 1984 and then moved to Chemical Financial (a predecessor to Chase Financial) in 1989.
