Pulte pushes retirement community just for baby boomers

Del Webb, a national community for active adults in retirement, is doing more to cater specifically to Baby Boomers.

And here is what Del Webb thinks Baby Boomers are looking for in a retirement community: wine tastings and music clubs among other things. There are also associated volunteering programs.

“Getting a real hands-on experience is very important in the decision-making process of today’s Baby Boomers,” said Deborah Wahl Meyer, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for parent company PulteGroup.

Since many Baby Boomers are still working, either part-time or full-time, the program helps connect potential homebuyers with current Del Webb residents. So far there are 50 Del Webb communities in 20 states, but Meyer admits it’s not for everyone — less than half of program participants end up buying a new Del Webb home.

“A sales presentation is not enough for these savvy consumers,” Meyer added, who. “They really need to experience the lifestyle, which means providing opportunities to mingle with residents on their own terms, assess to the amenities and enjoy the many special events and activities.”
