The Wall Street Journal reports that Countrywide Financial has let go of 900 additional employees:
Yesterday, Countrywide said the 900 layoffs were mainly in its mortgage-production divisions. The company statement didn’t provide details. “Any further changes to the Countrywide organization will reflect our ongoing strategy to align our business to the marketplace,” the company said.
The layoffs come on top of an earlier cut that affected 500 employees at the company’s Full Spectrum lending division, and amid speculation that Countrywide is considering a historic level of mass layoffs amid the housing downturn. Numerous media outlets have reported this week that Countrywide is considering laying off 6,000 to 10,000 of its current workforce.
