New listing agreements push Zillow beyond record levels

Continues growth of direct listing providers

The Zillow Group (Z) is continuing in its preparation for the looming end of its listing agreement with ListHub.

When Zillow canceled its agreement with ListHub in January, Zillow expected to lose a “few hundred thousand” listings when the Listhub agreement ends on April 7, but the company said earlier this week that its campaign to sign multiple listing services to direct listing agreements has been so successful that Zillow and Trulia will soon host more listings than ever before.

And that was before three of the country’s largest MLSs agreed to provide listings to the two sites.

Zillow announced this week that the Arizona Regional Multiple Listing Service, Georgia-based First Multiple Listing Service and Washington D.C.-based Metropolitan Regional Information Systems all signed listing agreements with Zillow and Trulia.

In addition to those three, Zillow also said it signed a “record-setting” number of listing agreements, adding 33 new MLSs total this week.

"The momentum continues to build," said Errol Samuelson, Zillow Group chief industry development officer. "The industry has been incredibly supportive in working with us to create direct listing feeds, for the benefit of brokers, agents, home buyers and sellers. We are working hard to keep up with the demand. Not only has the number of MLSs sending us a direct feed skyrocketed, we also are getting more listings in those markets than before."

The agreements will allows each MLSs’ members, including the 31,000 members of ARMLS, to send listing data directly to Zillow and Trulia.

"ARMLS's market, which includes the greater Phoenix metro, is desirable for home buyers and sellers alike because homes are still affordable, the population continues to grow and home values continue to appreciate — all of which is good news to the buyers and sellers ARMLS's members represent," Samuelson said.

"Now through a direct feed to Zillow and Trulia, ARMLS members have complete control over their listings while having them marketed to the broadest audience of home shoppers on two of the most-visited real estate websites," Samuelson added.

In addition to Arizona Regional Multiple Listing Service, First Multiple Listing Service and Metropolitan Regional Information Systems, Zillow also signed listing agreements with:

"Sending a direct feed of our listings was in the best interest of our members and the sellers they represent," said Cantey Davis, president of First Multiple Listing Service.

"We wanted our members to be confident that they have a guaranteed way to get their listings on to the portals that millions of home shoppers are visiting, and we've arrived at a great solution with Zillow Group that gives our brokers control over their data, but still makes marketing their listings simple," Davis continued.

"When brokers choose to syndicate, ARMLS wants to provide the options to facilitate that decision," said Matthew Consalvo, CEO of ARMLS.
