The S&P 500 dropped for five of the past six sessions from recent record levels thanks to uncertainty about the Federal Reserve's timetable for reducing its bond purchases.
"There are very negative catalysts, but there's also a lack of positive catalysts," said Andrew Wilkinson, chief economic strategist at Miller Tabak & Co.
